ABOUT ADAM

Your Bike Mechanic

ADAM PELZER

I am Adam Pelzer & for as long as I can recall, I have been fixing, riding, racing & talking about bicycles.

At just 16yo in 1999 I started School based work experience for Big Kev at Redcliffe Cycles, where I was taught the craft from seasoned old school bike mechanics and hardened track & road racers, many of who I still associate with today. Here I formed associations with brands like Cannondale & Giant to custom made locally built steel frames and the latest Italian race machines.

Sometime during 2005 I moved across to the wholesale / manufacturing side of the industry and found my biggest passion, manufacturing & building wheels for Velocity Australia, learning the importance and art of custom handbuilt wheels, and exporting them to every corner of the globe, not only was it wheels, also accessories, custom parts and the entire process of manufacturing components and learning more about materials such as alloys and carbon fibre used in the cycling industry. It was here I made many cycling manufacturing contacts across the globe on my travels.

In 2013, after 24yr Velocity Australia moved locations to their sister site in the USA came the offer of relocating, though preferring the warmer stable climate of Brisbane I took up the position of Zipp wheelbuilder, SRAM & BMC mechanic at the local Australian distributor, again using the time to absorb new processes, technology and always willing to learn from other craftsmen. At this time I was building around 90 high end carbon race wheels per week, for the local work commuter to some of the highest profile cyclists you know. This also gave me the opportunity to work at the Tour Down Under in the peak Cadel era with BMC, seeing the inner workings of the brand and race teams.

At the end of 2015, seeing for many years the lack of quality servicing, mechanics and advice being offered and at a time when technology on bikes was evolving in an industry that I love and given me so much I decided riders needed better. Better mechanics, Better advise, better experience, Better bikes and not from a high turnover big chain store I set about offering a workshop focusing on exactly that, Bicycle mechanics. Now a lot of the industry doubted my concept that it would work, but with happy customers and if you do the job right the first time making that concept work is the easy part. There wasn’t many ‘’only workshops’’ around or if any in Brisbane at least that I knew of.

In April 2016 a month before our first child was born my wife & I put everything into the new shop

“Le Service Course – Bicycle Workshop’’ at Petrie. With the great support of riders, groups and clubs from far and wide it was obvious cyclists require precise expert quality mechanics be it on their kids BMX or Pro race bike I was always getting riders back out on the road.

As the years went by we offered big bike brands like Cannondale, Trek, Felt, Pinarello & BMC.

The town of Petrie grew, a train line & University arrived, an intersection upgrade went in, Covid came and went, we saw and heard everything at the Petrie shop until we eventually outgrew it.

After 8yrs in Jan 2024 we relocated to our own purpose built efficient modern workshop, not far away at North Lakes, with room to move and grow this is now the result of 25yrs of seeing, watching, asking, doing, learning & listening to what riders really want.

Sure, it’s easy to assume the big box high turnover stores are easy to shop at or cheap, but let me prove you wrong. I know the big Red one’s motto is ‘’The world’s most approachable bike store’’

I don’t really have one, though ‘’Just do it’’ was taken which was fitting given my attitude to just getting jobs done.

The age old ‘’Good old fashioned service’’ just doesn’t have that glossy appeal to it nowadays so in the mean time I’ll just go with LSC Bicycle Workshop’’ - The world’s 2nd most approachable bike store, and let your experience prove that wrong.
